Letter Four; Knowledge

Dear Child,

There’s a saying that goes; “A love affair with knowledge will never end in heartbreak.” To me, this saying encapsulates everything I want to talk to you about today.

The importance of having knowledge cannot be over-emphasized. What is knowledge? According to the dictionary, knowledge is the general awareness or possession of information, facts, ideas, truths or principles.

First, the possession of information. We live in an informed world. We have to constantly upgrade our information arsenal so as not to go obsolete. In this world of twitter, facebook, and the likes, you have to learn how to use these social media platforms to advance your career and thrust you towards your goals. Look for information, find it, eat it, live it, for this is a pathway to knowledge.

Second, the possession of facts. It is when you have established your facts, that you can know the truth of a circumstance or situation. So, never assume anything. Find out the truth from the facts you can gather.

Third, the possession of ideas. There’s this popular book by Fela Durotoye titled ‘ideas rule the world’. In it, he epitomised how one’s ideas have the ability to change destinies, influence society and overhaul previous status-quo. Ideas are powerful, possess them and you will rule your world.

Fourth, the possession of principles. A principled man/woman will go far in life. When you are principled, decision making becomes easier. You know what you want, you know how to get it and you go for it.

Knowledge is key, knowledge is essential if you want to rule.
